Later in the week, as a returning guest and by way of compensation we were given an upgrade to a suite which was lovely but the cleanliness was still the same - perhaps it was the new manager who needed check on things more? All this being said, the boat is still very lovely and the staff and food are wonderful. However, I still felt disappointed at the difference in standards. On speaking to the new general manager the room was vacuumed and complimentary wine and chocs sent up. Also in the communal areas like the lounge, standards has slipped for example there were broken shades on a couple of the lamps that really needed replacing, light bults did not work and TV remotes needed batteries etc. This is unavoidable but the nets should really have been changed more regularly - especially in view that this is one of the more pricey boats on the river. I was very disappointed to see that the net curtains and the curtain pulling rod were covered in greasy black from the fumes of other ships (when moored with the patio windows open). The wood paneling was smeared and greasy (like someone with suncream had been leaning on it) and had not been polished and the bathrooms were showing considerable wear esecially in the sauna/shower compartments and loos were leaking. When we arrived it appeared that the floor had not been swept or vacuumed. I request the same room as it was in such a good position so was easily able to compare every aspect of the room. Unfortunately the standards of cleaning on the boat has declined. Therefore, as I love Egypt and the Nile so much I decided to go on it again in 2008. In 2007 it was just one year old and everything was superb.
